What is Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI) and when is it applicable?

Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI) is a one-time fee paid by you, the borrower, to protect the lender in case you default on your home loan. It’s typically required when your deposit is less than 20% of the property’s value.

LMI is paid upfront at the beginning of your loan and is non-refundable. Depending on your lender’s policy, you can either add this cost to your loan amount or pay it in full at settlement.

How long does the loan process take?

Full approval or a pre-approval can usually take anywhere between 2-3 days to 1–3 weeks depending on the lender and the complexity of your application.
